My name is Lili Newland. I am the granddaughter of Michael Polledri and I am 16 years old.

In October 2018 I am embarking on the challenge of a lifetime, namely to travel to Nepal where I will attempt to reach Everest Base Camp which is at an altitude of 16,700 feet. I will be accompanied by a small group from my school.

We will not be using Sherpas so we will be responsible for carrying all of our own equipment and possessions. For each of us, all of our equipment and possessions must fit into a 60-litre backpack.

The venture will be challenging both mentally and physically, as having to reach altitudes more than 5500 metres will risk altitude sickness in some or all of the group and we’ll need to be strong for each other.

Each day we will select a new group leader to mitigate the pressures of leadership and provide each person the opportunity of being leader.

My intention is to raise as much as I can for The LVE Charitable Foundation, a charity founded by my grandfather to provide opportunities for young people in east and north London for whom life has been tough. The Foundation provides sustained and targeted opportunities relevant to the needs of those whom it serves.

As well as 14 days of walking and climbing I will be without Wi-Fi and my mobile phone so that will be a challenge in itself!!!

I will be most grateful if you will support my efforts by donating to LVE Charitable Foundation, as I feel that my endeavours should help others just as much as I know they will help me.
